  • The legendary mountain passes

On the roads of the Tour de France, climb the famous moutain passes of Aspin and the Tourmalet. To make the most of it, visit, between the two passes, the village of Campan and picnic at the Lac de Payolle.


The department Gers, in Gascon country, is not to be missied to discover the local products in the open-air gourmet markets. Foie gras de canard (duck foie gras), magret (duck breast), gésiers (duck gizzards), confits. There's nothing like it to give you an appetite! Samatan market on Monday mornings. Samatan will be Departure Village of a stage of the Tour de France in July 2012.


The Grotte de Massabielle (Massabielle Cave) is a Catholic place of pilgrimage and its spring, running near the cave, is supposed to have miraculous powers. It is opposite the Gave de Pau.


A medieval village with XVth and XVIth century half-timbered houses. The Sainte-Marie Cathedral hosts Bishop Bertrand de l'Isle Jourdain's tomb. Night market at the end of June. Midsummer Day celebrations.
